"The audience found it spellbinding and delightful. One patient actually forgot her pain and did not take her tablets!"
Lawrence Durrell, the travel writer, wrote that 'Music is only love looking for words'. I think that is a wonderful expression and draws an evocative picture of the power of music. It is this love, and power, that we are trying to harness at Music in Hospitals, when our 300 personally selected, and auditioned musicians, perform annually over 5,000 live concerts in hospitals, care homes. hospices, and special needs schools before more than 125,000 adults and children.
Our mission is to bring the joy, and love, of high quality live music to those in our society who are not so fortunate, and may be affected by illness, disability or the challenges of advancing age. There is an increasing body of scientific evidence proving the therapeutic benefits of live music in healthcare. This is supported the positive feedback we receive every day from our concert recipients:
"Absolutely excellent performance. Relatives and patients enjoyed the show and said that it was the best performance we have ever had!"
“Thank you for this session, it reinforced that music is essential for people with learning disabilities. Many of our service users are not able to go to concerts and this makes them feel part of a proper concert. There was great pride as they recalled what they had done with the harp and this was maintained throughout the day.”
We need your help and support to raise funds to provide the musicians and to perform more concerts across the UK. I do hope that you feel compelled to support this very worthwhile cause.
Thank you very much.
